This page is made to make incomings' life a little bit easier. Here you can find basic things, which you should know before you come here or which you should know in the first days of your stay.
Step 1 >> Before you come to Austria.
If you're an EU-citizen - you won't need any visa or something like that, but if you're not a EU-citizen - you should find all the answers regarding visa etc. at the Austrian Council in your city.
Step 2 >> Already Planning to go here
Of course you'll need a place to live here in St.Poelten.
Numero 1: Everyone advises usually Campus-Domus, which is a students' hostel. Here live students only and it takes only 5-7 minutes to get to FH on foot. So a lot of fun and comfortable life :) All important notes can be found HERE
You'll have to make a pre-payment for your room (1% from your whole contract sum and fee for 2 months. In summer semester 2009 it was approx. 520 EUR. But don't forget, that's this pre-payment will be hold until you leave the room and keep it in a good condition, that's why don't forget to pay for the first month just when you arrive!
Another important thing to know - quite often it's said, that campus-domus is full and there're no places. But don't panic - usually some places do appear approx. 1 month before the start of the studies. But not always - so, if you get an answer, that it's already full - find a 2nd variant, just to be sure that you get a place in St.Poelten.
Numero 2: The other possibility - Wihast, it's situated only 100 m from Campus-Domus and it's almost the same. Their site is HERE
Numero 3: The 3rd possibility is to search for a flat on your own.
Step 3 >> Coming to St.Poelten
If you're coming not by car, so without any navigation system, it could be sometimes a little bit difficult to find the way to the main places. So HERE's the map with the most important ways.
Step 4 >> First days in St.Poelten
If you're going to live in Campus-Domus or Wihast - you have to take the key, but if you arrive too late (after 16:00), everything is closed, that's why you should get in touch with us before you come and ask us to pick up a key for you.
For Campus-Domus students
On your first visit to the Bureau of Campus-Domus you'll have to sign the contract between you and Campus-Domus. Besides you'll get a paper to fill in - to get an internet access in your room. But before you fill it in, you'll need to know the MAC-Adress of your Network card to have the internet access. To find it out
- launch your Notebook/Desktop;
- for Windows users: go to Start - > Run
- Type there "cmd" (without quotes)
- In the opened black-white window type in "ipconfig /all" (also without quotes)
- Your PC will make a listing of your network cards (wireless, LAN etc.), so you have to look for Physical Adress of your LAN card. Usually there's a word "Ethernet".
- Physical adress should look like this: XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX, where "X" - numbers and letters from "A" till "F"
- You're ready to get internet.
For non Windows users - please ask people, who know it :)
Step 5 >> Formality
As you come to Austria you have to register within your first 3 days of stay. You have to get a so called "Meldezettel", which you can always get from the person, who gives you a room/flat or from internet, for example HERE. In case of Campus-Domus - you get this paper at the Bureau.
You'll have to fill it in, sign and don't forget to get sign and stamp from the person, who gives you a room/flat. In case of Campus-Domus - you get the signature and the stamp also at the Bureau.
And after that you have to go to "Meldeamt", which is situated in the Rathaus, in the ground floor. Rathaus - is situated on the main square - a pink-white building. It's difficult not to see it. The entrance is from the main square, in the middle of the building there's an arc. There you'll get a confirmation.
Step 6 >> Enjoy
All the main and formal things are now done. After that you can visit FH on the welcoming meeting and enjoy your stay in Austria.
